MOGWAI- When Mogwai aren't playing music, they enjoy jet-setting, as they are all successful male models.

Mogwai's spacey, fleshed-out guitar arrangements are blissful drones that always stop short of meandering.

Mogwai's soundman instigated a rivalry with Blur by screening and selling shirts that read "Blur Are Shite."

MODEST MOUSE- Modest Mouse's combination of affected vocals and post-Pixies/ post-Built To Spill arrangements have made them a success.

They recorded three records on independent record labels, including one on K, before signing to Epic Records in 2000.

MONSTER MAGNET- New Jersey-born Dave Wyndorf formed Monster Magnet in 1989. The band is known for a sludgy, Psychedelic/ Hard Rock sound.

Wyndorf had previously been in a little-known Punk band called Shrapnel.

Monster Magnet play what has come to be known as stoner rock. And they do it very well!

RADIOHEAD- Radiohead are one of the most revered bands of the 1990s and beyond. Quite a change from their initial one-hit wonder tag.

When Radiohead started out, they were a seven piece; they originally had two sisters playing saxophone.

Although the band hails from Oxford, guitarist Ed O'Brien is a self-confessed Manchester United Football Club supporter.

In July 2001, Radiohead were immortalized in an episode of "South Park."

SYSTEM OF A DOWN- These Ozzfest debutantes won themselves a number of converts by combining the antithetical styles of Goth and Funk.

Band members are of Armenian descent, and have campaigned actively on behalf of persecuted Armenians in other countries.

Their perplexing name comes from a poem by guitarist Daron Malakian called "Victims of a Down," if that's any help.

''Take your own meaning out of our name," says frontman Serj Tankian. "We leave it open to interpretation."

COLDPLAY- This British quartet's casual dream pop melodies and poetic lyrics have brought it international stardom.

The band formed in 1997 at the University College London.

Coldplay hit the U.K. charts in 1999 after famed DJ Steve Lamacq started playing "Brothers & Sisters" on BBC Radio 1.

"Parachutes" debuted at number one in the U.K. and then sold five million copies. The band's second album did even better.

DAVE MATHEWS BAND- South African singer/guitarist Dave Matthews formed his funky pop/rock outfit in Virginia in the early '90s.

Like Q-Tip says, "Ladies love the voice. Brothers dig the lyrics." However, he may have meant himself and not Dave Matthews.

THE CRANBERRIES- The Cranberries' melodic indie guitar pop jangles comfortably next to Dolores O'Riordan's powerful, caterwauling vocals.

THE CURE- The Cure have been playing mope rock for depressed teens since 1976. Think of it in terms of units of black eyeliner sold.(GAYNESS)

Originally called the Easy Cure, the band was initially formed in 1976 by schoolmates Smith, Tolhurst and Dempsey.

In 1979, the band toured with Siouxsie and the Banshees. Smith would work with Banshee members throughout the next decade.

In the past, Robert Smith has set out on a tour of America aboard the Queen Elizabeth II.

It is a well-known fact that Robert Smith is afraid to fly.

THE VERVE- This British band made anthemic, psychedelic rock during the '90s and were actually as good as they claimed to be.
